5 weeks

Lucy is 5 weeks old! In this picture you can see her sporting her newest look; the cloth diaper. Its been going well so far, we are easing into them. Not at night yet, not when we go out. So its been pretty easy, besides the diapers being ginormous on her, the rest has been fine. Washing them isn't so bad either; I have a zippered bag I put the liners in (and the covers when they get wet) and they stay in there dry until ready for a wash. I have a special detergent with no enzymes, brighteners or additives so it just washes the diapers. It is really good at getting stains out, I don't scrub or pretreat or anything! I throw them in the dryer and we are ready to go again! A lot of stuff related to being a parent is easier so far than I thought it would be....I'm still waiting for that to change! Minus things like getting sprayed in the face with poop and getting Lucy to fall asleep during the day, I can't say its been bad at all! Its been a lot of fun taking care of this little person. :)

The other pictures are of the magnolia tree Ian and I planted last year in the hopes of covering up our satellite dish. :) It isn't covering anything quite yet, but it is pretty so far! I'm looking forward to all the blooms being open in a week or two! Probably just in time for cherry blossom season!

Speaking of which, stay tuned! Next week, Lacey is in town and Lucy/Lacey will get their first dose of the Cherry Blossom Festival, we can hardly wait! Its supposed to be in the high 70s/80s next week so it should be wonderful! I got Lucy's easter dress today and can't wait for her to wear it on Sunday! Happy early Easter everyone!

Look ma, no hands!

Here are some pictures of our latest adventures with Lucy. We've mastered some babywearing, some we are working on. I just got my moby wrap in the mail today, and I finally feel like I have some freedom! I can carry Lucy up against me, as is shown in the picture and have 2 hands free. The other carriers work well too, but a lot of times she likes to be held/fall asleep up against my chest and then I can't do anything. This is promising! I already folded laundry and sent emails. Best of all, it doesn't hurt my back!

We are just starting to try the cloth diapers, I am happy so far with the result but we haven't done them overnight yet; maybe tonight! I was feeling obligated to use up my disposables before we use the cloth, but I am getting sick of diaper rash and thought we'd give this a try! For those who are curious, the cute diaper you see is stuffed with either a prefolded diaper or a baby kicks insert covered with some biosoft liner which kinda looks like toilet paper, but is nice because you just lift the poop off! I will keep you up to date on how Lucy and I end up liking the cloth diapers, but so far it is promising! Best of all, we've spent about $200 on our cloth diapers and will probably take us through almost the first year, depending on how fast she puts on weight. I am really pumped about that! Now I'm hoping it will give her less diaper rash so we can stop going through so much diaper cream!

Weeks 3&4

Sorry we've taken so long to get these pictures up, I'm sure you can understand! :) I've been trying to keep up with laundry so that doesn't get on top of me. Every time she takes a nap I feel like I'm scrambling to do stuff, and some stuff just doesn't get done. Anyway, We've had a great first month if I do say so myself. Lucy is such a good baby (I think I can safely say that now). She sleeps well and doesn't cry a whole lot. It is so fun to watch her grow and change every day. She is getting so big (to me at least) and she is starting to coo and lift her head up and look around at everything. She looks like she is going to be very inquisitive and pensive ;). The picture on the bottom in the yellow is her 3 week picture and the one at the top is at 4 weeks. The two in between are the visitors she's entertained since being home. Aiden is 8 weeks old and is our neighbor; I'm sure the two will be playing together before you know it. Jack and Kim came by last friday and brought us a yummy lunch and we went to the park. Jack wasn't too interested in Lucy yet, but I'm sure that will change. We've been getting out and enjoying the beautiful spring weather with plenty of walks. One thing we know for sure is that Lucy loves to move. She falls asleep immediately once she's in the car and doesn't seem to mind the stroller or front carrier much either! She takes after her mom in sleeping habits thankfully, and her dad in movement; she's always kicking her legs around. I think Ian and I have decided that we are going to travel the world with Lucy once she's a star tennis player. He will be her coach and I'll be her personal trainer. :) We'll see how that goes. Right now we are just having fun hanging out and enjoying spring!

2 week stats

Hi Everyone, a quick post doctor update here. We went to the pediatrician today and Lucy got an A+ for her visit! She weighed 7lbs 10 oz, 20.75 inches long. 40th percentile for weight and 75th for height (She takes after dad already). She decided since the doctor made her so angry to pee on him before he finished! She has a small port wine stain on her chest, but other than that she is perfectly healthy! She did a great job in the car too, we drove down to VA for the pediatrician and got stuck in traffic on the way home due to a truck fire, so she was in the car for close to 3 hours today and slept the whole time! She ate before we left home and before we left the doctor and she was an angel. I am so thankful that she is good so far...hoping it continues but I think we can handle whatever comes our way!

2 weeks old!

Holy cow does time fly! But it also seems to go slowly at the same time. Lucy is already 2 weeks old, I can't believe it! She is a great baby so far, I really can't complain at all. I've been getting about 6 hours of sleep a night, plus a nap here and there. She eats every 2-3 hours right now. We went in for her 1 week check up and she weighed 7lbs even. She looked so good they didn't even check her bilirubin level for jaundice. Her umbilical cord fell out kinda early and it was still oozing when we went in. The doctor said she had an umbilical granuloma, which they dried up with some silver nitrate and she is as good as new! :) We are going back tomorrow for another weight check, I'm sure she'll have surpassed her birth weight by then, she feels a lot heavier to me! :)

We have had some lovely weather the last couple days, so we've put Lucy in the baby k'tan carrier and she loves going for walks! So much so that she is snoring almost the entire time! I am thankful for the nice weather, we have the windows open today and I wore flip flops on our walk! It feels good to get outside. I think she was born at the perfect time of year, I think we are going to be spending a lot of time outside.

My parents just left yesterday, they were here for a week and were an incredible help! Dad fixed up the whole house, organized the garage, washed the car, installed a storm door and ceiling fan, and about 10 other projects. Mom was busy cooking great food and cleaning things, and of course plenty of time holding Lucy. It was nice to bring her downstairs after a feeding and drop her off and go back upstairs to shower or nap and not have to worry about her. I was nervous to be by myself with her this week, but we are doing great so far.

Thats about all I can think of for now, I will post again after tomorrow when we have her stats!
