Where does time go?
I feel like I'm going to be saying that for the rest of my life....but really, I'm not sure where the last month went! I've been wanting to blog about Christmas/our trip to WI but I still haven't uploaded my pictures. I think I'm still in the process of getting the house back in order....not easy when it gets messed up every day! Lucy did great at home seeing everyone, we were home for 10 days, and with the exception of one lazy day, we had two dates to see people per day, which we mostly fit in between naps. Lucy was napping quite well at home and sleeping pretty well until the end of the trip when she started teething again. She had a mild fever on Christmas eve and was pretty fussy on and off for the rest of the trip. She hasn't been sleeping well since we got back, I'm hoping she'll get back to her normal self soon though! For Christmas eve we made trips all over the Milwaukee area, down to Lake Geneva and up to Menomonee Falls. I'm glad we got to see everyone a couple times at least. Ian and I even got to go out at night a couple times when Lucy was asleep, I forgot what that was like! We even went to a movie...gasp! I was so excited to see harry potter finally.
Lucy spent her 10 month birthday in WI, and I'm sure I have a picture of it. I'll edit this post and add some pics when I can find the camera cord.....since we got back from home she's been more interested in moving, and even tolerating time on her belly more and more (which is foreign since she's hated it for most of her life). So I'm holding out hope that she might still crawl. We'll see....
We've been sampling a lot of new foods since we got back. I bought a jar of purple sauerkraut from the co-op in WI and she loves it, when I bring the jar up by her tray to plop some down for her she starts to giggle. I'm sad though because I can't find it out here and the jar is almost gone :( Its fun to see her experiment with food. She also has discovered a fondness for coconut milk yogurt, which is too bad because its way too expensive for me to buy on a regular basis, and has too much sugar! So I've been mixing it with her egg yolks to get those into her and counteract the sweetness. I am going to venture making my own though and see how she likes that. I bought a food dehydrator when we got back and have been drying lots of fruit. Lucy LOVES pineapple and banana. I have to keep myself from eating all of it though, hard to do without other sweet stuff in the house, its a treat!
I'm pretty sure I've narrowed down another allergy for Lucy. I took wheat out of my diet shortly before Christmas and her sandpaper skin went away. I accidentally ate some wheat at the end of our trip and her rash came right back and has been back up until now. I know sometimes it takes several weeks for symptoms of a food allergy to clear out of your system, so I'm hoping thats the explanation rather than yet another food that she's allergic to. I'm always suspicious of an allergen when she stops sleeping like she normally does because that can be a sign in an allergic person. So for now her and I are on a very limited diet...mostly meat, eggs, veggies and fruits, and fats of course. We eat plenty of coconut oil/milk and ghee (clarified butter). I also messed up and ate something with dairy in it when we got home (a large quantity lets just say...) and Lucy ended up with some hives. Usually not a big deal, but it means that her exposure is worsening, which can happen over time. (First exposure was from formula when she was jaundice, which I totally regret being scared into giving her). The earlier/more frequent the exposures to the allergen the worse the allergy can become over time. I need to be extremely careful here on out because I don't want her to have any worsening symptoms. Its already bad enough!!
I am working on healing our digestive tracts to hopefully make the allergies go away eventually. If you are interested in the diet we are following check this page out: GAPS diet. When I first read about this diet I thought there was no way I could ever eat like that since it is so restrictive, but I am pretty much doing it on my own with Lucy's allergies. The only thing I've been eating a lot of lately is potatoes, which is on the no-no list. I'm going to try and cut back on those and up my intake of fermented foods (kefir, sauerkraut, pickles, etc.) and homemade broth and really work on healing our digestive tracts. I'm thankful that Lucy herself will eat the sauerkraut and pickles and loves kefir smoothies too! I'm optimistic that we will eventually be able to eat dairy products and wheat again, in their more natural form (raw milk and sourdough bread).
Anyway, sorry for the long post with no pictures....I just had to start writing before I forgot! I'll add the pictures soon, I promise. Happy New Year!!
