Happy Birthday to me!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the birthday wishes, gifts, cards, etc. I felt very special yesterday! I thought I should share what we did, since it was my golden b-day and extra special. First off, Lucy let me take a shower and have breakfast in the am; always a good start to the day. She did however, decide to make it an extra messy day by lots of poopy diapers and waking up with spit up in her hair, so she got a bath too. I decided I could dress her however I wanted because it was my birthday, so she wore her oshkosh b'gosh again with her baby nikes. It didn't really match but I didn't care! :)
We drove down to bethesda and met Robin for lunch at my favorite restaurant, Sweet Green. We ate dessert before lunch at the best place in the world as far as I'm concerned, Georgetown Cupcake. We followed all of that with some successful shopping at my favorite store, Lucy. (No she wasn't named after the store. ;) I ended up spending all of my birthday money, and am fully stocked with new clothes, so thanks!
Next we headed to dad's work and Lucy got to meet some more fun people and spend dad's lunchbreak with him. It was good to see him during the day! We made it home without too much trouble in rushhour, mom even had time to stop at the starbucks drivethru on the way home and order my favorite, a decaf soy latte. I was smiling on the inside at this point. Lucy was so tired she didn't even wake up when we got home, so we went for our usual 45 minute walk.
Dad came home shortly after and made an awesome birthday dinner, better than any dinner out we've had for my birthday (almost :) ) Lucy played on the playmat for awhile and I was able to enjoy myself and make a salad.

Overall, it was an awesome birthday; couldn't have gone any better! Thanks everyone, I feel very loved!

Lucy the professional traveler

Lucy celebrated her 2 month birthday in South Carolina! We traveled down last wednesday to see Julia graduate from the marine corps boot camp. It was so humbling and honoring to be a part of something like that, we are so proud of Julia. Lucy was very well behaved and did awesome on the trip down and back, sleeping most of the way and not too fussy. She enjoyed meeting the Westermann side of the family and mom and dad even left her alone with Grandma for the first time! (We pretended we were on a date).

Lucy has finally been smiling a lot on a regular basis and we don't have to pull them out of her anymore. Just a couple sweet words from mom or dad and we get a huge grin! We've finally given up on taking pictures of it on the cell phone. This we got by me making her smile and Ian stand over me and capture it. Otherwise if I just stand there with the camera she looks confused....This is my new favorite outfit that she owns. We've had some cooler weather lately thankfully so she can wear it. I think it will fit her for awhile thankfully because I just love it! I will have to buy her more oskosh b'gosh once she outgrows it because it just looks too cute. Too bad she didn't get to show it off at church because Lucy and mom sat alone in the 'nursing mom' section (which I sit in by myself) and listen to a dvd of the sermon from down the hall while overhead they play elevator music. (Our church meets in a holiday inn conference center). Hopefully someday she will sleep through a service and not wake up hungry halfway through...its usually just in time for the sermon.

8 weeks!

Lucy is 8 weeks old, wow how time flies, seriously! We went to the doctor today for her 2 mo. check up. She weighed a hefty 10lbs. 4oz. and was  23 inches. Thats the 50th and 75th percentiles respectively. So she's gained 3lbs since she was born, thats just crazy to me!! After her doctor we introduced her to Tyson's Corner, the biggest mall in the area. We met our friends Kim and Jack there for some shopping and lunch. Lucy was good as usual, slept most of the time until she woke up hungry. She let me eat lunch even!

Kim had to take this picture while I held Jack. For some reason he didn't want to sit down next to Lucy! We had a lot of fun, and a lot more play dates with Kim and Jack are to come!

Playdate!

Lucy and Lyla had a playdate today, so did their mommies. They weren't interacting too much as you can see from this picture, but moms had fun. We took the girls for a walk and had lunch. We're hoping that they will play together more and more as they get older and we're really looking forward to it! I'm still trying to catch a smile on camera, its really hard! I've finally resigned to the fact that my cell phone camera isn't going to cut it, I have to pull out the SLR to capture the fleeting moment. Lyla was smiling up a storm though, so I'm sure Lucy will be following in stride shortly.

Busy weeks 6&7

Happy belated Easter from Lucy! Ian took this picture of us just before church, we both had time to dress up! Lucy's dress lasted until about 4pm when she spit up on it, I was so proud! We had a beautiful day in Maryland, we got to skype with the Fonstad's for Easter and join in on their celebration which was a lot of fun. We even got to have some virtual cake. Lucy is getting good at spitting up on camera. In the evening we went to the airport and picked up Lacey for a fun visit. She bravely stayed with us for 4 days, and Lucy performed well. Her goal was to be such a good baby to make Lacey want to have kids. :)

This is Lucy's 6 week picture, and last one taken with her newborn clothes on! I've finally put them ALL away. We've used up all of the disposable newborn diapers, and she is fitting into the next stage just fine. The pants are still kind of big on her, but I'm sure that won't last for long.

Here is Lucy's 7 week picture! She is getting so big! Next monday we go to the doctor, I can't wait to see how much she weighs! She is getting really good with head control. I am paranoid that she has torticollis; she favors laying on her right cheek and turning to the right. Her head seems to be permanently tilted to the right. We'll ask the doctor about it.

Lastly, we've been trying to catch a smile on camera for a week or so now, she is very stingy with her smiles and generally saves them for me (which I'm fine with) but it would be nice if Ian got some! These pictures are the closest we've come, I'm sure we'll get it sooner or later.

Lucy is looking forward to a lot of activities in the next coming months. Next week, we're taking her to South Carolina to see her aunt Julia graduate from the Marine corps boot camp. We're very proud of her! After that she will be going to New York with Mom and Grandma. I am attending a course to become a certified Bradley Method Birth Instructor! I will be teaching the classes that are the same as Ian and I took before we had Lucy. We are both really excited about this opportunity, we want to share what we learned because we had such a good experience! After that, Lucy and mom will be traveling to WI for memorial weekend and hope to make the rounds to meet everyone; we are super excited, and Lucy will also get her first introduction to life at the cottage, we can't wait!
